These are the rules that must be followed to have a private bonfire in the fire pit at Silo Ridge’s Liberty Park. These rules must be followed exactly and in their entirety. Failure to comply with all of these rules can result in the immediate termination of your bonfire and the board’s refusal to grant permission for any future bonfires.
Notify Silo Ridge board member to schedule your bonfire and reserve the date and time you want. Unauthorized bonfires will be immediately extinguished and can result in forfeiture of future privileges. Currently, notification is not required - we are using a first-come, first-serve method of using park space.
Review Pittsfield Township Code, Chapter 10, Article III to familiarize yourself with the laws governing such a bonfire.
After receiving approval from the SR board, call the Pittsfield Township Fire Department’s non-emergency number at 734-996-3011 to notify them of the time, date and place of your bonfire. Be sure to state that your bonfire will conform to all the requirements of Pittsfield Township Code, Chapter 10, Article III.
Adult supervision is required for all bonfires. No exceptions.
Only Silo Ridge homeowners may hold bonfires in our park. No exceptions.
Bring appropriate tools that will be used for fire control (e.g.: a five gallon pail, a shovel and a rake) to the bonfire pit with you. It will be your responsibility to maintain the fire at a safe and manageable level and extinguish it completely when you are finished.
Build your bonfire using your own firewood. Scrap wood piled near the bonfire pit may be used. Under no circumstances should the bonfire be higher than five feet or extend outside of the firepit. These are Pittsfield Township regulations and must be followed exactly.
Start the fire using paper, pine needles or other solid material. Gasoline, lighter fluid or other accelerants are not allowed under Pittsfield Township Code, Chapter 10, Article III.
No underage drinking is allowed under any circumstances. Adult drinking is allowed in moderation, but public drunkenness will forfeit your privilege to hold the bonfire and any future bonfires.
Respect the privacy and rights of your neighbors whose homes border the park. Keep noise to a minimum. Complaints about the loudness of your party will be grounds for refusal to permit any future bonfires.
The bonfire must be over and completely extinguished before midnight. Use the fire tools you brought with you to douse the fire and extinguish all coals and ashes.
At the end of your bonfire, clean up everything around the bonfire pit. Be a good camper and leave the area in better condition than when you started.
Remember, this is a privilege and not a right. Respect your neighbors and follow these rules and all applicable Pittsfield Township ordinances.
